Mark Hands is the Chief Executive Officer for the Australian Industry Trade College (AITC); a leading senior school with an industry focus for 900 young people across five campuses.
Mark has extensive experience in the construction industry, youth work and education. He was the Principal of an independent P–12 school in Queensland for 16 years before establishing the AITC in 2008 in response to a need for an alternative style of senior education with a training environment to produce the best quality apprentices. More than 90% of young people at any of the five AITC campuses in South East Queensland graduate with their senior school certificate and an apprenticeship outcome.
Mark began life as a tradesman (carpenter) himself, and has since completed three degrees achieving a Master of Education on the topic of industry-based schooling. He has made leadership a central pillar and necessary habit of his company strategy over a 30-year career in schooling.
Mark defines the Australian Industry Trade College as a school created by industry, for industry. The AITC’s unmatched industry connections have been a trail-blazer for industry and a game-changer for education, resulting in significant and sustainable employment outcomes for over 1,400 young people.
